We're city folk.
Madeleine learned her numbers by riding the elevator, Henry's doing the same. We're really good at looking both ways and checking the taxi lines. Australia taught us to diligently press the cross walk buttons (as a side note, every cross walk in Aussie land has a noise - kind of a pulsing beeping - when the walk sign goes on. I found myself waiting at the crosswalk too many times when I got back to the states because I was waiting for the sound!).
Parking garages are the norm - we wouldn't even know what to do with a driveway and a garage. We know where all the ramps and handicap buttons are when traveling with the stroller and just today Madeleine exclaimed that we lived in a sky-scraper because we are on the top floor and she can see the sky from there. We're city slickers in our own way.
Imagine our excitement when my friend Amy invited us to visit her farm during our trip to Utah. It was shell shock for all of us seeing this novelty life firsthand. Our kids are both within a week of each other and were both fantastic toddler tour guides. Abby and Dallin showed off the pigs, goats, cows chickens, dogs and turkeys - eventually M & H warmed up. Madeleine was able to help feed the pigs and turkeys and gather the chicken eggs, while Henry's highlights included climbing the on the tractor, throwing rocks without being reprimanded, and playing in the field.
It was absolutely beautiful feeling like there's so little around you. We were treated to a beautiful sunset and eventually had to say goodbye, but know this Beck clan - WE'LL BE BACK!
